Question about prayer

I try to pray the same thing every day such as an our father among other well known prayers and on top of that I try to petition and ask for all the good things I can think of from praying for the souls in purgatory to people who are sick. I try to pray for all these things which I believe are good to pray for but I don’t have much of a conversation with Jesus. So, my question is should I stop asking for so much for the good of others and try to simply have a conversation with God instead?
