Music pre-Vatican II and after

I have a few questions in terms of the change of music between pre vatican II and after which I haven't been able to get a 100% clear answer on. If someone could answer for me that would be so, so great!
- What were the main differences between music before and after Vatican II?
- Why did it change- why was it important enough to change & why did it have to change?
And, that's it, haha. Replies of any length at all are appreciated if they provide answers. My researching skills have failed me so I can only hope someone here can help me. :') Thanks!
