I was at an anniversary mass last Sunday and a lot of my family would call themselves lapsed Catholics or armchair Catholics were there too. A lot of them turned away from the church after all the child abuse claims came out. How ever on Sunday they were all up getting holy communion. It felt a bit disrespectful. Is this OK? Does the church have an official view on this?
My family have always been a bit left wing and are at odds with some of the beliefs of the church. I would include myself in that, but I'm still a practicing Catholic who goes to mass every Sunday, prays everyday and I consult god in all decisions in life.
