Wheezing cat

Although our cat adopted us almost a couple of years ago, he's still the first cat I've ever had and I have had to learn "all things cat" since he's been here.....not really any cat knowledge prior to this guy......

Anyway, my boy is approximately 5 years old....maybe a bit more/less and he's got a definite wheeze.....not just snoring when he sleeps but I can hear his little wheezes when he is just lying around...... sometimes when he's playing/moving around but it's more apparent when he's being still. Should I worry? Is this something that needs vet intervention?

I know he lived with smokers (they smoked in the house with him) up until he was about 2-3 years old.....I'm not sure if that has any bearing on this situation)

Since he's been living with us (me, hubby and a bird) he's gained a little weight...... he's definitely not overweight (he's also fairly active) but he's got a LITTLE tummy pouch.....I had him fixed about a year ago. He's was a bit heavier then and the vet never mentioned him being overweight or anything.

Oh, he sneezes quite a bit.....I notice him having sneezes that "shake" him....like, he sneezes and his whole body jerks from sneezing so hard.

That's about all the relevant background I can think of.....I'm just trying to determine if I need to "worry" about my little guy.....I fell in love with him so hard and I was never a cat person before.....I just want him to have a happy, comfortable life! Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any helpful input!! ❤️
