Finally getting a cat after 40 years!

I cannot tell you what this means to me, all my life I’ve wanted a can and it’s not been possible. It’s like finding a magic lamp, and all my wishes are Cat!
I don’t know the best way of finding an individual that I can bond with. How do you know before committing that the connection is there? I’m assuming I will get a rescue, and its name will be Kinley. Aside from that I’m not sure how to do this. Advice please!
