Cat acting like they are starving

So my cat has an automatic feeder and it goes off at 5am and 5pm. I wake up at around 9am-10am and I give her a little treat. But from the time I wake up until 5pm she meows so much 🥲 and when I walk past her feeder she’s screaming at me. Idk what to do. My mom suggested that I give her more protein. Would that help? She currently eats Hills Science dry food.
