Sudden aggressive need for attention

Post Body

So I have a 10 year old male black cat. I had two cats up until 2 months ago, when my roommates left a window open. He got out and never returned home. Since then, he has become almost aggressively clingy. I just returned from a five day trip to Mexico yesterday and just now when I deposited him off of my lap he bit my hand twice. He is a very loving and attached cat. I am home almost all day everyday except when I work weekends.

Now, he wants to be in my lap at all times or be pet. I am a student. I can't keep him off my laptop nor off myself. He receives plenty of love and care; I love him more than anything in the world. He almost seems jealous of the laptop and sometimes even my phone. I've considered getting another cat but he is animal aggressive. He was introduced to his adopted brother very young in life and they grew to love one another. I'm concerned he is stressed or possibly grieving the loss of his brother. My roommates own two large dogs that he does not like but they don't interact because I live on the second floor and he wants to be wherever I am. He will attack other cats and does not tolerate dogs. He tolerated my sister's dogs when she owned him before I took the cats in but again; they were introduced when he was young.

I am wondering if it would be a good idea to introduce a kitten so he can have more companionship outside of myself. I don't know if any paternal instinct would keep him from wanting to harm a kitten. Do male cats even have paternal instincts? I'm kind of at my wits end with this behavior because sometimes it's hard to get him to allow me to even sleep. Any advice would be appreciated. I want him to be as happy as possible and I feel something is wrong. He's been checked out by a vet recently and is in perfect health so I know this behavior has nothing to do with physical discomfort. Do I need to play with him more? He's quite lazy but he does love to play in his kitty tunnel and we do that once daily.
