Should I rehome my cat?

Post Body

Hi,

I fostered a 1 year old cat for around 3 weeks last year and I instantly fell in love with her. I had wanted to a cat for so long that once I moved out on my own and had a pretty established place I didnā€™t hesitate to foster. After fostering for about 3 weeks I was given the opportunity to adopt and I just had to, I loved her so much.

Now it has been about a year and I feel guilty because I sometimes regret adopting her. I know younger cats have more energy, but she has so much more than I feel I can reciprocate. I play with her mostly in the morning and night because thatā€™s when I heard itā€™s most important, but also just throughout the day and she still has enough energy to be running around my apt to the point I wake up multiple times throughout the night to it. She also HATES getting her nails cut, Iā€™ve cut other cats (my siblings own cats) nails before so I felt pretty confident but no matter what tricks I use she refuses to stay calm and itā€™s starting to drive me nuts. I even had to take her to the vet just to ask them to cut her nails and they told me she is extremely feisty and they had trouble too. Iā€™ve tried doing it slowly and a couple nails at a time and giving her treats and exposure over time, nothing has changed she cannot stand it. Another big issue is that Iā€™m the type of person to host people a lot, whether it be people visiting and I offer my couch for them, or just weekends hosting movie nights and such. But somehow almost everyone I know is allergic to my cat. Even my friends and family who own cats are super reactive to my cat and Iā€™m not sure why. Itā€™s to the point my own brother and parents cannot stay in my home when visiting anymore and that makes me really sad, if they visit they have to get a hotel nearby. I tried doing an extremely deep clean and keeping my cat in my room for the whole day while they stayed one night but it was not enough and they had to leave very early in the morning and just get a hotel because their allergies were too bad. And they own 2 cats!!!

I do love her very much, but I feel the amount of times im frustrated with her is not healthy as her parent and she deserves an owner who can give her even more attention and can handle the stress and frustration better. I just donā€™t know if rehoming is a good idea because again, I do love her a lot and I donā€™t want to force her into a new environment after making this her home. Guess I am mainly looking for advice or tips on whether I should rehome her or whether these ā€œissuesā€ are somewhat common and I am overreacting. If I do rehome her, I feel like I should do it sooner than later for her sake, so she can be with one family as long as possible rather than me selfishly keeping her longer with the intention of rehoming her in the future
