My roommate got a new kitten about three months ago, and the kitten is really aggravating me. I'm just looking for advice on how to train or communicate with a kitten.
For example, with our older cat, if he does something he's not allowed to, we snap our fingers and he knows he's in trouble. The kitten doesn't care. The next step is spraying with the spray bottle. Kitten still doesn't care.
He's a cat, I can't just tell him he's not allowed on the table. But I don't keep cats so the only technique I know is the spray bottle and it's not working.
IN ADDITION! Whenever I sit in the common area, he climbs onto my chest and headbutts, bites, and scratches me until I am petting him with BOTH hands. If I pet him incorrectly, he bites and scratches. I am allergic to cats, and not only does t his proximity set off my allergies, but so do the bites. He is a cat. I cannot tell him "Please let me use my phone for thirty seconds, then I will pet you again." or "I will pet you with one hand, so I can have my other hand for my own purposes." He does not care. He is a cat. He cannot be reasoned or compromised with.
So, I've been staying in my room a lot because he won't let me do ANYTHING without harassing me. My roommate is upset that I'm not spending enough time with her. How do I train the cat to let me pet it with one hand so I can function and my roommate won't feel neglected?
I was planning on just waiting until he grew up and became less rambunctious/needy but with my roommate being upset at me, I need a faster solution than just "wait it out"
