Our little babygirl broke open the balcony net yesterday afternoon and we haven't found her since. She was initially a house cat for the first few months of her life before her previous owners left her in the streets. She was a stray for 10-11 months, and that's when we took her in. So she knows how to hold her own and is quite street smart too.
She's notorious for sneaking out, but we've always found her roaming in the vicinity of the house. Perched on a tree, or running in the neighbor's verandah. We have a lot of stray dogs and two feral cats in the neighborhood, so I'm terrified she has been chased far away.
What we've done so far:
- Kept her litter box outside.
- Made a scent trail with her litter in the neighborhood, starting and ending at our main door.
- Put a sweater of mine outside in case she recognises the scent.
- Mapped 500 metre or so radius multiple times.
- Spoken to neighbors and put missing posters all over.
Its the first time she took off in the winter. She's all of three years and we have only lived in this house for 10 months now. I don't know if she knows how to come back. It's so foggy during dusk and dawn, there's zero visibility so we've only been able to go search when the sun is out.
Our younger cat is anxious too. She's purring all the time, hiding under beds and in cabinet drawers. I think she knows too. I slept last night and she wasn't there cooing to get under my blanket. She wasn't there to wake me up in the morning either. I miss her so much. Poor baby. I hope she's okay.
What else can I do? I just need something to hold on to.
