Hi everyone,
Proud owner of a recently adopted 1-year-old calico female. I've had her about 3 weeks. My ex-wife and kids have a family dog (pit bull mix) that the kids sometimes bring when they come for visitation. I love the dog as I have spent a lot of time with her, and have boarded her for the ex-wife and kids when they go out of town (board her at my place).
I had already committed to watching the dog at my place for when they go out of town for thanksgiving before I adopted the cat. We are doing a trial this weekend during the visitation when I plan on introducing. I've researched a few options but can't seem to find consensus. The dog is very playful but can be very aggressive when playing. If this weekend doesn't work out, then I won't be watching the dog over the holidays.
Based on the time I've had with the cat, she is not going to be crazy about the dog (scared probably). Also, Fern (the dog), chases geese, ducks, and lizards when out walking with leash. She is very strong. She has never shown any type of aggression towards me or the kids, she is very sweet and affectionate.

Is this a bad idea? Any recommendations for the introductions? I haven't owned a cat in decades, mainly been dogs over the years. Thank you for reading!
