New Cat Will not go in Carrier (tale as old as time)

Post Body

I adopted my cat a few days ago, . He is a great cat, very friendly and gentle. But, he is skittish and even the slightest movement of your arm and he thinks you are going to grab him and take him away.

He has some teary eyes and sneezing, so I want to take him to the vet, but it was a horrible chaotic scene when I tried to take him yesterday. I called one mobile vet, to try to get a house call, but the vet would not come over. he said it sounded like a cold that cats get at shelters commonly and that just let the cat be.

My question is, I have tried treat training with the carrier, ie having him eat on the carrier but he still is horrified by the carrier.

what did you do to try to get your cat to be less afraid of the carrier? especially a rescue cat who may have bad feelings about it.
