One of my cats can’t stop hurting the other. Do I need to rehome?

My cats gets along pretty well. They both initiate play, chase each other around, groom each other, and even cuddle sometimes. But one of them just takes it too far during play time (he was an only cat for a while and never learned how not to do this) and bites or scratches hard enough to leave wounds. Recently the affected cat has a bite wound that seems to be infected. I’m taking him to the vet, but I don’t know if he even likes living here anymore, or if it’s good for him. What do I do?
