Over vocalizing cat, help!

Post Body

Hi all I have a very sweet 8 year old calico kitty that I adopted a year ago. She is perfectly healthy, trust me. I have spent over a thousand dollars on getting her up to date on all her vaccines, routine vet visits, blood work, stool samples, and she even had an ultra sound at one point. She is an extremely healthy cat. Only issues is her previous owner declawed her front paws, but the vet says her paws look healthy.

I expressed all of this to my vet and she gave my gabapentin to calm her down for a little bit, but it’s since run out. My vet says my kitty is healthy and that she is over vocalizing because of a behavior issue that came about when I tried to foster another cat about six months ago. I thought she could use some company, but BOY WAS I WRONG. My cat has not been the same since and it’s really driving me nuts. The second kitty is obviously no longer with us, but my cat’s behavior just hasn’t been back to neutral since.

The main issue with my cat is that she over vocalizes. She screams, she cries, and she screeches almost. She does this thing where she paces around the house and just cries out and follows me around. It’s almost like if I’m not within her sight she goes into a frenzy. Other times I really can’t figure out what the hell she wants.

Right now I have a calming collar on her, and it helped a bit but not enough. Any advice would really help!

I love my cat and I want her to be happy, but I find that sometimes I have to walk on eggshells around her and it’s really driving me nuts.
