I am going on vacation next week and I am so excited but also somewhat scared.
Post Body

I(31M) will be going to Mexico with my parents to visit family. The last time I was there was Jan 2020. I am so excited to see my extended family and just in general as I love going to Mexico. We used to go every other year for as long as I can remember. Although this time I have this lingering feeling of fear. My mind just thinks about the violence and danger and suddenly I get this thought of being kidnapped and well...yup.

The thing is, I have been to Mexico so many times. Some of those time there genuinely were sketchy moments where people followed or were suspicious; but I was never scared. We take precautions, we never stay out late, I don't drink or go to bars. When we arrive we go straight to family and are seen around town with them and we don't cause any trouble.

I know you can't escape all danger but I don't know... I feel like talking it out might ease my anxiety...or not.

Some more relevant info. We are going to Michoacan which, as far as the US govt is concerned is a Do Not Travel state. We travel to a small pueblo so it's not the city and whenever we travel in Mexico we have our own car and go with family.
