As a fan of Science Fiction I sometimes wonder if having spaceships situated differently in space would break the immersion despite the innate realism it would bring to a scene
Post Body

I feel that one thing that has become universally accepted is that all spaceships, whenever on screen together, are all aligned on the same horizontal line despite the lack of reference points in space which would allow someone to determine which way is up. This thought doesn't "make or break" Science Fiction for me as I do have a fondness for it, whether it's in the form of books, movies, TV, or even video games. It's just one of those thoughts that you have, ponder, and then forget but instead of forgetting it this time I'm going to share it.

I think this has become common practice for simplicity and to help convey the story being told but I'm curious how it would be perceived by consumers. Has there been any instances in the past that this has happened?
