Anyone else have a good job that just isn't for them?
I work as kind of a service engineer. The pay is good, even better after overtime, bonuses and on-call. My team is friendly to me and we work well together when needed. My manager is too much of a jobsworth at times, but he's pretty good about it when things come up like sudden hospital appointments and family issues. It avoids most the typical 'bad job' aspects really.
The main problem is that I just don't like it. Never imagined myself using spanners, grips, screwdrivers and other things. Before I got this job, the only time I'd picked up a screwdriver was for building computers.
There are other negative aspects. A week of being on call is mandatory every few weeks. We have to work some weekends. My back and knees seem to be getting worse and worse from going into small areas like cupboards or working from the ground.
The team has been dropping people like flies too for better paying similar jobs. Unfortunately I'm not really qualified for anything else. I could probably go the same route as the others, but I don't really want to be in this industry as it is. Doing an apprenticeship in another industry would likely leave me unable to pay the bills.
If anyone has been in a similar situation, what did you do?
