So I'm starting a video game club at my college, and this has been one hell of an experience and everyone I've talked to is on board -- even some of the club management staff at this school is into gaming! I had a long conversation with one when I dropped in for questions. We have some really enthusiastic members and a lot of plans and I'm excited to see it rolling past the initial stages we're in. I'm actually just about prepped to hang out at an expo for registered club orgs to recruit! And I think it means a lot to a lot of students here because this is a women's college, and it's kind of been taboo to be a gamer (both as a women and in general campus life), but we're bringing it out into the forefront with the club, and I know there are students excited to be able to enjoy what they like.
I think more than all that, I've learned a lot about myself -- mostly that I'm really capable of things, and that finally getting to my projects makes me motivated. For background, I had some rocky school semesters for the last three years from depression and anxiety, but as I've gotten more and more involved with student life, I've seen myself a lot better with my actual schoolwork.
Honestly being a leader, even in such a unique capacity, is a really fulfilling experience. I had some opportunities to lead some small political groups as well during the summer and the feeling is growing. It fills a few holes in my mind and spirit that I never really realized were there until I put my mind to it. And I think more important is knowing that there are others that will benefit from it.
I'm really glad that I've put myself through this experience -- it's been a year in the making for me, and I'm feeling more alive than I have in a very, VERY long time.
What about you guys? Have you led any projects of any scale that have been fulfilling, or that have sparked motivation or enthusiasm in you?
