After I had a really difficult life event a few years ago, and someone went out of their way to make me smile, I try to pass on happiness to others.
One small way I do this is to use the name of any staff at restaurants, stores, etc. whenever possible, on top of being polite, patient and thankful; e.g. "Thank you so much, Nikki! You have a great day."
While it's a very small thing to do, I've noticed it almost always gets a reaction. I think the service industry is so difficult sometimes, just being treated like a person / human is a bright moment in their day.
