Years ago, my family and I were on our way home from a family gathering, my dad was annoyed with us because we were being loud in the back so he told us kids to shut up. Bout half a minute later we started talking again, he asked us "what part of 'shut up' dont you understand", confused and in all seriousness I said, "the up part". We all had a bit of a chuckle after that. Ive started to remember this moment more frequently and it always makes me laugh but also what does the 'up part' mean? no part is going up, so why isnt the more correct term shut it used more??
