I think I might have reacted a bit rude because I was so confused by the question.
I am from Asia and now live in Europe. It snows here, but not that much. We talked about the weather in our countries. This older man asked me how cold the weather gets in winter in my country and I told him it gets much colder than here. Then he asked me if I have ever seen snow. I told him no, I haven’t seen snow yet because it’s not winter now? He says no no, have you seen actual snow before. I was so confused by the question, I asked him what? He probably thought I didn’t know what snow meant or something so he explained to me what snow is. I told him, of course I’ve seen snow.. what do you mean? And he said I just asked because there are many people who have never seen snow.
I don’t want to admit it but I think I could have been slightly offended because of the fact that he doesn’t even know the most basic thing about my country. Like, how can people not even know that? I thought people usually knew better than that, and he already knows other people from my country. Also, I am an adult and I traveled a lot. He knows that. I would have seen snow at some point while traveling if I didn’t in my home country…
Now that I think about it, it could happen. Who cares about the weather? It’s nothing. He was just making a conversation. But at that moment I didn’t react smoothly and I regret.
