Everyone and their mother knows about MJ the king of pop. Everyone. But how has no one ever reached half his influence ? There has been artists so successful like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, BTS or even One Direction that were HUGE at their time; they have billions of views, get invited everywhere and media from all around the globe talk about them all the time, yet they're not known everywhere to the point EVERYONE know their lyrics, etc. I just wonder how it is possible that despite having so many ways of sharing music and technically having more "fans" than him on paper, no one has managed to be known by everyone up to their mimics, voice, looks, dance moves etc.
closest we've ever gotten to that was Gangnam Style and almost no one can recognize Psy or devote themselves to him like they did for MJ.
Peal of music TV (not JUST the channel of the same name but to a large degree), internet present but a non-factor as of yet.
Basically. Culture is simply more heterogeneous now. He died pretty much exactly as the mainstream started to really take notice of the internet, what with VEVO happening a few months later.
