I learned from an uncle to say, "Why do you ask?," in response to a question I am not okay with answering. It seems to work in redirecting the conversation and I like how it politely calls out the other person for being too nosy.
What is your way of responding to a question that you aren't comfortable answering?

A good way I've found is to politely say, "I prefer not to discuss that," and then change the topic. It usually helps in steering the conversation away without causing any discomfort.
