The last few days I've felt like I've been absolutely hopeless at talking to people but at the same time, when I do talk to people they don't seem to actually want to continue the conversation. I'll give a couple of examples

1) there's this girl at my work that I kind of like but I've never tried to pursue anything because I dont really want to mess anything up at work. Anyways, because we work in different parts of the company we don't actually get to talk that much but the other day there was a bit of free time and I went to talk to her about what the plan was for the task we had coming up, that went fine.

Then I thought I'd ask her a couple things to kind of get to know her. I asked how long she'd been at the company, she said a couple of years, no question back. I asked her how long she'd been in the position that she was in, she replied, but still no reply question. I asked her how her part of the company was and she didn't really know how to answer. Then I kind of just gave up because it felt like she wasn't really interested and she wasn't even trying to ask me questions as well which, correct me if I'm wrong, is how I think conversations should go.

2) yesterday, was at a social event with some family. I was talking to my brother in laws new partner and same thing. She was better than the person at work but she just didn't really seem to push the conversation further than a few sentences.

Same happened with my brother in laws friend. First off he didn't even really try to introduce himself until like halfway through the event even though we were sitting next to each other (to be fair, neither did I but he came after I arrived and said hi to literally everyone but me). Asked a few questions about me, rhne I asked him and he gave a few dry responses and that was it...

What the hell am I doing wrong? Is it me? Do I suck at conversing or do people just not want to talk to me? I see other people talking and they seem to be able to just have a conversation flow but im hopeless.
