This is kind of a ridiculous question but I'm at a loss for how to approach this, if I should even do anything.
I (20F) am a junior at college and ever since I came here I have joined my colleges honor society. We have weekly meetings regarding all sorts of things and it goes pretty well. I've been actively participating in it and have been a valuable member.
There's this boy who joined around the same time during my freshman year. He was quiet and polite and didn't bring much attention to himself. However it's been 3 years and despite perfect attendance from him no one really knows anything about him. He always appears disinterested or aloof but he continuously comes back to the meetings.
I've tried talking to him but he just goes quiet, none of my friends who are also in the club have gotten anywhere regarding speaking to him either. We don't gossip about him but it has came up that none of us really know literally anything about him.
He has lost a considerable amount of weight during his time here, maybe I should talk to him about it? I can't really ask how he's enjoying the club 3 years in since that's just ridiculous. He shows virtually no emotion and only wears dress shirts and ties. I've seen him around campus a few times and he's always doing something related to philanthropy or student government.
He speaks sometimes but 80% of the time it's either a mumble or he just gives up halfway through.
Obviously the answer is to just talk to him, but I'm more interested in what's possibly going through his mind to warrant such behavior. I'm never going to directly ask him this kind of thing which is why I'm here. We have always been nice to him and I assume if he felt disliked he would just stop showing up since it's not a necessary club in any capacity.
I just really want to know what possible reasons he might have for behaving like this. I know it's naive on my end but I just don't get it.
