Post Body

I have a 2007 forester that needs the cat converter replaced. I am in a pickle because I am getting married in 3 months and have the honeymoon to pay for, school to pay monthly, and now the cat converter issue. This problem is much harder to solve considering that I live in California. I have to get my car smoged this month so I need to replace the converter as soon as possible.

I found a legal converter for 600 that I will order, here is the link to it: https://www.hottexhaust.com/Magnaflow_5531447

My concern is this, how easy is it to replace this part on my vehicle? I have jack stands and the tools necessary to replace it, but is this realistically something that I can do or am I in over my head? One mechanic quoted me $2,000 for the job because he was going to order the part from the dealer which is $1,200 I don't have the money to pay for this particular mechanic to do the job, so id like to do it on my own.

What am I up against and what should I be weary of, and how can I do this job efficiently and safely? I would really love some advice from people that are experienced in this area.
