Changing number plates and getting a pink slip/RWC

Post Body

Hey all, So at the moment I have a custom plate on my car and I wanted to change back to a basic, normal plate.

I was advised by Service NSW to first dispose the number plate and return it to Service NSW closer to the rego end date, and then register the vehicle again for the new plates.

However, how will this work if I need to get a pink slip from my local mechanic? I assume I'll need to get a pink slip to even register for a number plate but, remembering correctly, you need a pink slip to even renew the registration.

Can I get the pink slip on my old, custom plate, then dispose of it and get the new plate? Is pink slip tied to the VIN? Should I be doing this another way? Advice appreciated please!
