TL;DR:
Floating/suspended bulkheads (e.g. transitions in slab elevation) or curb face forms. Is there another name for this?
I've been trying to search for picture examples/ideas on how to suspend these things securely, particularly when you are limited in places to anchor/brace them.
Any good links or suggestions?
Sometimes just knowing the right terms makes all the difference in searching.
The Long Winded Part:
I'm working for the general contractor and, a while back, the site reached the point where the forming crew left.
Anyway, lately I've had to do a few odd forming jobs, completely solo, and was a little surprised at some of my blind spots.
I've been too used to working with much more experienced people, or having bosses tell us exactly what they want. So I'm learning the hard way about design and work flow and solving all my own problems. Heh.
Serves me right for not paying attention to the right details and asking more questions.
Twice now, I've had to do these little floating bulkheads.
One was where the open end of a higher curb transitioned to a lower elevation bit of slab. Imagine a square with one corner turned inward. Luckily, it was a short distance, so nothing too fancy was required.
The most recent was for a little curb on top of a pad against two walls in a corner. I couldn't pin to the walls apart from where the bulkheads butt into the wall.
The longest side was a bit of a challenge as I had to suspend the curb face form/inner bulkhead, purely from outside the form and not impede the use of trowels &c.
I did it. It worked fine. But I'm not satisfied. It could have, should have, been better and faster constructed, and I wonder if I got a little lucky.
