I’ve been caring for my bed bound grandmother who has dementia for a few years and it goes without saying that I’m exhausted.
I’ve tried going through caregiving companies but can’t find anyone consistent and then they have trouble staffing/finding someone else so I’m always back to square one. They make tons of promises about having ample caregivers and after using 3 different companies I’m feeling like they are just bs’ing to get another client.
I’ve enrolled my grandmother in the consumer direct program to find someone myself and get them paid through Medicaid with no luck. I even offer to pay cash per hour in addition to the $12.75 offered by the state. No luck. I’ve tried care.com, word of mouth, and have just posted a Craigslist ad. I’m now considering posting ads with local nursing schools and community colleges in hopes that a CNA student (or anyone, really) will apply.
Are there any avenues or sites for caregivers that you all can recommend?
My mom is a care giver and she’s friends with other care givers in both private companies and through nursing homes. We’re in a different state but it wouldn’t hurt to check out local nursing homes and talk to the staff or private care givers. Their usually interested in extra work.
