Everyone swears that a college degree isn't necessary to obtain a well-paying job, yet entry-level jobs list a degree as a requirement. I've thought of enrolling in college to provide myself with better opportunities. Of course it isn't something I can afford it and I'll need to take out loans, but it feels like my only option.
I've worked in an office, retail and education. I've done manual labor as well. These jobs did not require a degree and each had their own challenges.
I've attended local job fairs, interviewed at various places, signed up for job boards, revised my resume according to include key words for tracking software, applied for jobs where I'm a sure fit and jobs that are a reach. I've applied to many "no degree needed" jobs and still get rejected.
I don't have any remarkable skills. I can use a computer and office equipment. I was good at math in high school. I have customer service experience. My main concern is that, even if I can secure a job that aligns with my skillset, I won't be able to support myself and family on a wage like that.
Some of my friends (and strangers) have been supportive of my interest in receiving a degree, while others think it's going to be another mistake. I have a shy personality, I don't do well in high-stress environments and I struggle with anxiety. Every job I've worked has tested all those aspects so I'm not trying to give the wrong idea. I know no job is perfect. I'm not sure what degree, job or type of career I should pursue. 24 F, please help :')
