So I have a job offer on the table, but I just got back from an interview that's a lot more money.
The job that I've been officially offered is a much more "fun" job. It's with a very small, new company and has a better title. The salary isn't great, but has good (and realistic) bonus potential that would put it in the "pretty nice" category. It's also a job with a bigger scope and more diverse responsibilities, stuff that comes with a smaller team. Plus, I know the guys I'd be working for, we get along great and it would be fun going to work with them. The project is growing and has legit future opportunities.
The job I just interviewed for, on the other hand, is a salaried sales job (if you can believe that) that would pay above average for my town. It's with a well established, larger, local company and has the full range of benefits. It would be straightforward, predictable, rote, maybe even boring at times. But, after a career in commission-based sales, a job where I get paid the same regardless of the behavior and decisions of other people sounds refreshing and super-secure.
BUT . . . I may not be offered this job and their timeline is longer. Even if an offer comes it won't be for at least a month.
Should I take the job I want to do and have to pinch pennies and go to the marketplace for family healthcare, or wait it out and hope I get a shot at the lucrative, excellent situation & BORING job?
