What factors affect starting salary after graduating from college?

So I’ll be heading to college next month to start my bachelors degree in finance and I want to ensure I maintain a good academic standing but I also don’t know what employers require or look at in order to offer high salaries. I’m majoring in finance and I’m planning on doing the co op program offered at my school, which will give me 1 year of work experience by the time I graduate in 4 years. The average starting salary for my major at my school is $54,000. Will a high gpa help in increasing my starting salary? What factors increase salary by graduation besides the college attended?
