Which 'way around' should a mold be taken?
Post Body

I have an abs motorcycle part i want to create a mold from so I can replicate it as the original part is starting to crack and is quite valuable, but the shape is a little awkward. This is a good photo i found of an almost identical part online (showing the underside). I plan to use fiberglass mat to make a mold for this part so I can make multiple and get the best quality, however I'm not sure if i should create the mold on the inside or outside of the part. I feel that laying the piece so that im placing the surface layer into the mold first would be the easiest way to help promote a good surface finish, but im worried about potentially damaging the paint with the mold surface-layer itself. Is this something that I dont need to be worried about so-long as I do everything carefully and properly or is this a justified concern? Thanks
