I started at this dealership about two months ago (Hyundai) and it has a volume pay plan. It's hourly commission, once you hit 8.5 cars you get commission. They have a internet department and floor department. Floor can only take fresh up's, no phone up's no internet up's. Floor has a 30 minute up rotation, and if you're not up they want you to go to a desk and hammer the phone. They also have a really weird protection system, from what I've noticed as long as the internet dept. is sending regular emails texts etc (even with no response from customer) they can get half on a deal just from that even a week or two later if the customer comes in.
I'm in the floor department, and since I just started I don't have a huge pipeline. I follow up with people I've had that haven't bought, but it's not very many so when I'm done I'd rather just go outside and get an up. A few cars I sold last month were from someone being next up, not paying attention, and then I'm outside so I get the up. I try to be outside 99% of the day, but my managers hate it and tell me that I need to be inside and hit the phones or work the service drive. I've worked at KIA, Mazda (only for 3 weeks and realized it wasn't for me) and now Hyundai. I really don't like bouncing dealership to dealership but I've been really mixed on it. I really like the sales team, the managers are fucking ridiculous but for the most part okay lol. I hit 8.5 last month, and took home $1900 last check. (hourly $850 bonus commission) So realistically if you do the minimum and sell 8.5 you'll take home around $3k monthly (one hourly check $1100 one commission check $1900) One of the guys sold 12.5 and took home $2500. Just seems kinda ass, or am I overreacting? The store sells 150-180 cars monthly I believe, 50-60 from internet and rest walk up. We have 10 sales people on the floor. All things considered, at this point I may just stick it out or look for a Honda or Toyota dealer. I've always wanted to try either of them lol. What do you guys think?
I sold 4 cars last month and made 4k in commission plus 1k base.
Either find a product with enough gross to offset the low volume, or find a better dealer with a better pay plan/organization setup
