If I have a 2000 watt amp, should my wire kit be rated for 2,000 w? Or should it be less?

I was upgrading my amp from 1,000 watts to 2000 but the wiring kit I currently have is only rated for 1200 watts. The highest one that I can find it seems, is 1600. I would assume it should be around 2, 000w right?
