Hey all new to the community,
I’ve been in home theater a/v for 20 years so I know my way around slightly but when it comes to car audio I know zip. My wife and I just bought a larger SUV for the kids extra cargo space and we went with a 2023 Ford Explorer ST. The model I got came with the lovely 14 speaker b&o system and the only thing that stopped me from tearing the entire thing out was my wallet. I did a quick search for reputable brands and naturally JL came up. Threw in the afore mentioned JL sub and paired it with a JL XD 600 and an AC LC2i Pro. Crossover is set to 80hz and threshold on the LC2i is set at 50%. Gain is set slightly less than 50% across all devices but despite all this it’s quite boomy and distorted. By no means do I even need the car next to me to feel bass I just want some deep tight bass that’s good enough the interior of my vehicle. The JL is currently in the storage area above the spare tire and that’s on purpose. I really want to maximize storage in this car but if that’s the cause of this boominess then I’ll switch to a proper enclosure. So is it user error? Should I switch brands/enclosure? Thanks in advance all.
