Yea I never understood why anyone followed Tony in Civil war, especially Peter, but I semi get that Tony was so adamant and blind to Caps reasons because he blamed himself for all this kids dying (which was really brought on by that random mom telling Tony he was to blame even though he had no idea who the new warriors were or what they were doing)

Caps side was told they would be arrested and thrown in the Negative Zone unless they told the government (which was know to have leaks and corruption) their secret identities and be forced to work for the government. I’d say they had a right to fight.
