Consumation required for marriage?
Post Body

A priest made the claim in /r/AskAPriest that marriage requires consumation. This seems to contradict [CIC 1057] and [CCC 1626] (which I recognize is just citing the canon). He states that he learned this from Fr. James Coriden, his canon law professor.

I understand that there is a distinction between a marriage that is ratified but not consumated, and a marriage that is both ratified and consumated. Is there some other, more general sense, in which consumation could be considered required for the sacrament of marriage?
