Choose male or female puppy?

How is this male puppy? It’s 5 months old now and it was in a different home and that owner kids used him as a toy for few days and said we don’t want it anymore. They said we don’t get time as we go on vacations etc…the breeder said this puppy is good with kids and is leash trained…What do you recommend ? Shall I get this puppy ? Does it look good ? Or shall i get a 8 weeks old docked tail female puppy from a different litter of this same breeder ?
