Advice/Thought Dump - My Mom’s Cancer
Post Body

Today my mom told me she was diagnosed with Stage I Lung Cancer. She’s not fearful, very optimistic that it’s been caught early. Still very early stages in figuring things out like the specific type of lung cancer etc.

She said a few things that have me very worried though. Her treatments are her choice, but she already has said she doesn’t want to do chemo. She doesn’t know what else there is out there but she’s still optimistic she can overcome it.

I just feel so devastated. She’s 63 years old, 64 in October. She had tests done Jan 2022 when she first noticed issues with her breathing and they found nothing. She doesn’t want to see me upset so I’m trying not to show it but I’m just sitting here in the garage just balling so she doesn’t hear me. I know this is day 1 (for me) and we’ll learn to live with it.

Curious to discover how you all handled the first few days of a loved-one informing you of their diagnosis.
