Iām visiting my family (I moved away 3 years ago) and this is the second time Ive visited since my dads prostate cancer diagnosis. Heās on medication thatās helping but it hit me like a 20 ton truck to see him so skinny and fragile. I guess itās because I only see his face on FaceTime, this is the first time I really get to experience any of the things he goes through. It doesnāt bother me but I can tell he hates to look weak around me because Iām his youngest and heās always been the strongest man I know. if anything I just want to make sure heās happy and enjoying his time with me and my partner but when he doesnāt get to the toilet quick enough and ends up wetting himself I just know he feels bad and embarrassed because heās stopped himself from going to places with us as a family because he doesnāt want to āruin our dayā god I wish he could understand that he could never and that we enjoy our time with him even when these things happen. Iām sure weāve had him eat and drink more in the last 3 weeks together than he has in 3 months but I just love to see him eat and enjoy himself! My mom and sister have tried to get him to buy menās underwear to help him incase he really needs it but heās refusedā¦maybe itās a pride thing? So I bought him his first packā¦just like he probably did with me. I told him he didnāt have to use them if he didnāt want to but theyād be there if he needed them..and this morning the pack was open and I asked him how it went and he said he didnāt even need to use it but heās surprised itās so comfortable and he was thankful. Iām so happy that my dad gets a little piece of the dignity he thinks heās lost because of cancer. I love him and heāll never ever ruin my day.
