Handling my petstore canaries.

Tweety here is a male yellow canary I got from a petstore with his female friend Penny. Penny was injured in the store and is used to being handled, but tweety is still very skittish. I’m trying treats but he’s so terrified he just flies around the room and will only sit still if I cup him into a tiny cave like seen in the picture. Anyone have any advice on how to get these two canaries more comfortable being out of the cage and handled? Thanks.
