Don’t fall for informal accommodations

Post Body

Took informal accommodations for a condition that is lifelong. I failed to articulate my needs / explore them fully, and management “thought I was ok/didn’t need anything.”

A month ago had my performance discussion and ended up ok a PIP, losing my acting level, my file reassigned.

I realize there are performance issues I should have personally addressed much earlier.

Each and every comment on my performance review is an element of my medical condition. I disclosed my condition but didn’t push hard enough for my accommodations needs. I’m my own worst enemy it seems, in a perfect storm of a management team who didn’t seem to want to do the work of accommodating me. (Happened earlier for another condition too, without resolution.) - edit to add: also overworked and lack of access to clear info was a consideration I think.

Informal is garbage.

Unrepresented, or you bet I’d be talking to my union rep.

Hoping I can save someone else.
