Full disclosure, I don't live in Toronto, but I have lived in the GTA almost my entire life.
With the recent decision by Doug Ford to reduce the Toronto City Council significantly, I've seen a few commenters talk about the demerger of Toronto as a possible alternative. Now I'm old enough to remember Toronto when it was still separate cities, but I'm young enough to not really notice a difference.
I've also seen a few Quebecers talk about amalgamation and subsequent demerger of Montreal, and it seems opinions are mixed, ranging from "demerging was a mistake, it's a clusterfuck now" to "thank god we undid that."
Where Toronto is concerned, it seems that a lot of public opinion tends toward demerging.
Would someone more educated on the topic be willing to share their point of view?
