So on my new rav 4 and my fam members camry I been using Toyota oem 0w16 oil I get around 9$ quart . I change my oil every 5k. I did a lot research and Toyota oil has certain additives that others dont. Every brand varies slightly regarding certain levels of certain additives. I read people say Toyota uses Mobil but maybe they do but they do throw in their own mix of additives for sure I know.
I keep seeing Mobil 1 at Walmart 5 quarts for 27.99$ kinda cheap makes me skeptical. I also saw penzoil and valvoline 0w16 at my local Napa for under 40$. Should I keep using Toyota since I'm only saving 10 to 15$. I keep my cars over 300k 15 years. Should I just dish out extra 10 15$ and stick with oem or switch to another brand and save. If it truly has benefit to my engine I don't mind spending extra few $. If I do switch to Mobil 1 or valvoline should I just stick with same brand or is that a myth?
Also my old 05 camry 5w30 conventional I would use any brand I could get my hands on change every 3 to 4k religious. I went over 300k with no issue with the engine besides very slight leak which is common In those csmrys I would add half quart max between oil changes if that after 250k. Idk if oil brand had anything to do with it prob not.
