Looking for an entry level camera, what would you recommend?

Hey /r/Cameras,
I've been messing around with photography and videography though I've only got a GoPro Hero 2 to work with and while it can take some good close up video and photos I'm unable to get anything with a bit of distance.
Thus what entry level cameras would you recommend? Though I do require both photo and video. Also would you recommend spending more money on the camera itself or glass/lenses?
