Itās extraordinarily a complex problem, even if every person in the state legislature (including Reps) agreed that it needed to be done. Thereās layers upon layers of nuances to consider, primarily because thereās been a backlog of health issues over decades that have piled up from folks not wanting to see a doctor, what exactly are the sustainable tax hikes that could fund it, how much the Feds (if at all) could help contribute, the influx of people whoād inevitably move to the state for the program, etc etc.
Now some could dismiss that as āfuck all that, just gives us healthcareā and Iād be somewhat sympathetic to that argument, but if the program collapses in on itself because it wasnāt fully thought out because of populist rhetoric then what? That signals to the rest of the country āif CA canāt do it, what hope do we have?ā
If we do it, we have to do it right.
