Itā€™s extraordinarily a complex problem, even if every person in the state legislature (including Reps) agreed that it needed to be done. Thereā€™s layers upon layers of nuances to consider, primarily because thereā€™s been a backlog of health issues over decades that have piled up from folks not wanting to see a doctor, what exactly are the sustainable tax hikes that could fund it, how much the Feds (if at all) could help contribute, the influx of people whoā€™d inevitably move to the state for the program, etc etc.

Now some could dismiss that as ā€œfuck all that, just gives us healthcareā€ and Iā€™d be somewhat sympathetic to that argument, but if the program collapses in on itself because it wasnā€™t fully thought out because of populist rhetoric then what? That signals to the rest of the country ā€œif CA canā€™t do it, what hope do we have?ā€

If we do it, we have to do it right.
