Winding Way in Fair Oaks west of Sunrise frequently has drivers going 60 MPH where the speed limit is 35. This is a residential street with numerous driveways. A large number of drivers also ignore a stop sign at New York that was installed after I pronounced an individual for the paramedics in the 1990s. (I am a physician. Roger Niello was then good enough as our county supervisor to get the county Transportation Department to install a 4 way stop sign at that intersection.) I attempted to get additional stop signs on Winding Way two years ago after another fatality at Winding Way and Minnesota. The Transportation Department refused, citing various regulations. The fire department also refused to have speed bumps installed. The Transportation Department said it was the job of the CHP to add patrols and arrest more people in order to get people to quit speeding. CHP recently has started having a few patrols, but it hasn't been enough to make a difference. It isn't even safe for us residents to place our trash cans on the street as required. I guess, the CHP could take some of the officers at the nearby governor's residence where they provide 24/7 coverage. One wonders who our civil servants are working for.
