Before tonight’s game against Tampa Bay, it occurred to me that we are nearing the 20th anniversary of that infamous moment in the Stanley Cup Finals 2004 where the puck may have crossed the line in a pivotal game 6 (I apologize for bringing up this painful memory).
For me, I somewhat moved on from that moment. That miracle playoff run was both a blessing and a curse. Blessing: this is probably the last time Flames fan have been legit happy/proud of this team, nothing has ever come close since. Curse: this may have indirectly caused management/ownership to delude themselves in believing they can replicate this playoff run, even though these are rare to come by. I would give myself a 5. It still hurts, but I think the current state of our team makes me appreciate the miracle 04 run even more.
I just hope that ownership/management will take a long look in the mirror, realize the bad shape the team is in, and take action in trying to build a better team for the future. They have to if they want to justify the money being spent on a new arena/event centre.
Comment down below your 1-10 rating and if you think our [fanbase] should try to move on from this painful memory…
