I’m not sure if students in other departments got the email, but Dr. Mireles, department chair of physics, passed away.
I didn’t know him too well, but he was one of the last few people I saw weeks before campus shut down in 2020.
He attended our physics 1520 lecture, taught by Dr. Rhee, to promote the recitation section. He felt it was important for students to enroll in the recitation for the sake of doing well in the course.
During his time speaking, he was charismatic, enthusiastic, and caring. He really wanted the students to know how important we are as the future engineers and scientists of our generation and that our success in the course was of the utmost importance to him and the department.
He seemed like a really great person and since I hadn’t seen any posts about his passing on this sub, I wanted to share this experience, even if it was only a moment.
RIP Dr. Mireles. My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all close to him.
May the sorrows pass quickly and the memories remain forever.
